CIBRC Projects

 

The CIBRC through the Research Direction implements the different projects approved by the CIBRC as well as helps in the search for founds for them. Additionally, if requested, the CIBRC personnel helps in the development of propousals and in their implementation.

Current projects

Currently the CIBRC is developing 5 projects which are been develop in Mexico, USA, Holland and Costa Rica, in collaboration with other institutions like UNAM. Some of the most relevant projects are:

Communal development and Turism

To the moment there is a general lack of knowledge about the real impact in the development of eco-touristic projects in the development of the communities around them. The impact in the local economy as well as economic productivity of the touristic projects in the community are of extreme importance  in the understanding of its effects in the communities involved. The better understanding of the changes provoked by the touristic projects in the communities will help the leaders in the communities to visualize the potential impacts in the environment and their communal dynamics when implemented. Recobery of green areas and communal gardens at Garabito (Tibas, San José)

This proyect have the goals of developing a pilot project o communal gardens and recovering the park of the neighbor with native species of trees and other plants that bring shelter and food to different species of birds, butterflies, bats etc. Also, to incorporate the youth in a community service program which can lead to a better understanding of the link between nature and humankind. Development of the National Park Barbilla

The National Park Barbilla is located in the Atlantic coast of Costa Rica and it is part of the Talamanca mountain chain. Barbilla started as a protected wild area under the judicial decree #13392-A on Mar-16-1982. The decree ##13587-A on May-8-1982 switched i's protection status to protected zone Barbilla but 12 years after this  the judicial decree #23235-MIRENEM on May-19-1994  created the Biological reserve Barbilla  and after this the  National Park Barbilla was erected by the decree  #26561-MINAE on Jan-14-1998. Barbilla has an altitudinal range from 600 to 1600 meters over sea level, which helps in the protection of several life zones. El decreto ejecutivo cambió su régimen a Zona de Protección de Barbilla, doce años más tarde el decreto ejecutivo lo transformó en reserva biológica y a través del decreto su categoría real se establece como parque nacional. El parque nacional tiene una variación altitudinal a partir de los 600 a los 1600 msnm, que ayuda a la protección de diversas zonas de la vida. More..

Systematic revision of the wasp genus Hypomicrogaster

The braconid subfamily Microgastrinae is composed of approximately 52 genera that parasitize caterpillar larvae world wide, thus making them the one of the most important bio-controller group of lepidopteran pest. The genus Hypomicrogaster  is not the exception, the genus has been used to control pest in pears, cereals and apple plantations. English course at Garabito (Tibas, San José)

 The children of this area participated strongly in this community development project by picking up garbage, cleaning the gutters and recovering the green areas with ornamentals and  endemic trees. As a reward forthe girls an English course was set up. More...
