Academic courses

General Information

The courses take place at different biological stations across Costa Rica to ensure that the students will be exposed to different ecosystems in which they can develop different activities.

For each course there will be an aviable computer facilities as well as adequate filed equipment, audiovisual equipment, didactive materials, a specialized library in digital format and reference books. The course fee includs all the transportation costs within Costa Rica as well as the room and board.

 

Activities

The courses cover a wide range of activities to create a non-stressful environment for the students.

Introductory walks organized for the professors. On these field walks, the professors can discuss and illustrate different topics on the natural hystory of the area as well as the potential projects to execute in them by the students.

Talks. At each locality a series of talks about different aspects of the topics covered by the course will be given to the students to complete their instruction. The talks are expected to be a place for participation of the students so they can express their opinions and concerns about the topics cover on them.

Individual projects. In some of the visited localities the students will have to develop individual research projects, which will be presented to their fellow students for feedback and comments. Also, the students will have to present of their results and conclusion(s) to the class.

Written reports. The students are expected to present written reports about their individual and group projects in each on the visited localities.

Case studies. At each visited locality the professors in charge will present examplex of case studies of the topics to be covered by the course. For each case study a set of articles related to them will be required by the students to read, so pro and con points of view will be available for the students to create a better stage for the group discussion about them.

Group Projects . The group projects will be discussed by the students as well as the professors for feed back . Each project will be presented to the class prior to their execution for feedback and criticism to promote the collaboration and critic thinking among the students. Once the projects are completed they will be presented to the class.
